Cap d’Erquy is a prominent cape that forms the northwestern tip of Baie des Trépassés. “Erquy” comes from the word “Aerked” in the Breton language which means “cap”.
To the west of the cape are two very different beaches: on one side, Erquy-Plage beach where there are several holiday homes; on the other side, the port of Erquy with its famous granite pier.
Facing the cape are also two islands of rocks, one covered with vegetation and the other completely bare.
Erquy benefits from a typical Breton maritime climate, humid and mild all year round. Fog is common in winter due to the effect of an Atlantic low on the cold waters of the Gulf Stream.
The port of Erquy
The port of Erquy is located at the foot of a granite outcrop.
On the other hand, many pleasure boats are moored for summer visitors who wish to enjoy the calm of this bay protected from the south-westerly winds.
Erquy and its beaches
Near the pier, there is a public beach and a private beach.
The public beach is laid out with fine golden sand and offers a variety of activities such as surfing, canoeing and kayaking. It also has a snack bar and toilets to facilitate the practice of water sports.
The House of the Sea Erquy
The house of the sea Erquy is a fishing village but also a place dedicated to the seaside resort.
La Maison de la mer offers several activities such as water sports (sailing, surfing or pedal boats), boat trips and fishing excursions. The Erquy Webcam is installed there. She films live at 180 degrees.
